The story topic is the genesis of surfing culture in southern California.

I am compelled to tell this story as an outsider from California that was immediately enthralled the state’s singular culture and wanted to learn as much as possible about it. The more I can learn about this state that is my home away from home, the more I feel connected to it.

The cultural phenomenon is surfing in southern California.

The audience goes for those local to California and inform them about the culture they were raised while also those not local to the state so they can get an inside about how big of a deal surfing and that culture is in Southern California so they can grasp a culture that is different from theirs.

I want to go as far back as to the creation of surfing itself and how it was able to creep its way into California and I would also want to research surfing cultures in other place in order to juxtapose it to California so the audience can get a sense of how singular the culture is here. Lastly, the surf music was also such a key role in all of this too so looking into the Beach Boys and Jan&Jean will help and not even to mention its impact on pop culture and media like surfing movies that were made as well.
